LEVC adds range to its TX and VN5
In the UK, LEVC has announced an enhancement for its TX taxi and VN5 light van. Both vehicles are to benefit from a larger and more efficient battery.
The 34.6 kWh unit upgrades LEVC’s eCity powertrain, offering increased capacity (up from 31 kWh) and greater efficiency. The electric-only range for the TX is now 78 miles (up from 64 miles). VN5’s electric-only range improves to 73 miles (up from 64 miles).
The upgraded battery for TX and VN5 comes a few weeks after the presentation of the British company’s new, purely electric vehicle technology, which LEVC says will “transform the brand from a high-end taxi manufacturer to a leading provider of e-mobility solutions.” The electric platform focuses on interior space, as the name – the Space Oriented Architecture (SOA) – implies. LEVC says this platform will enable LEVC to enter new sectors outside of the existing TX and VN5 models.
So far, LEVC offers the TX taxi and the VN5 van derived from it. Although both vehicles can run purely on electricity, they both still have a combustion engine as a range extender. In January this year, the British firm owned by the Chinese automotive giant Geely, announced it will become a purely electric company and is aiming for a full range of electric vehicles within five years that it says will transform the company into a high-volume, all-electric brand with a range of commercial and passenger vehicles.
