NaaS Technology launches charging robot in China

The Chinese EV charging service provider NaaS Technology has launched a charging robot in China. The robots take care of charging processes when electric cars are parked in parking garages, for example.

The charging bot has mechanical arms that automatically dock onto the car’s charging port and complete charging and payment processes. This should allow electric car owners around-the-clock services and alleviate queues for charge points in parking garages.

The robot makers say that the charging bot is empowered by deep learning, 5g, v2X, and simultaneous localisation among other technology. The bot comes with different power and battery capacity configurations and uses an open API to connect with major OEMs. The charging bot connects with the electric car system through its own underlying API interface. If there is insufficient battery power, the bot simply initiates an automatic vehicle search.

NaaS says former employees of Bosch, BMW and “other reputable carmakers and technology companies” were involved in the development of the charging bot. This required expertise in robotics, autonomous driving and vehicles, industrial automation technology, software algorithms, and sensors, among other fields.

Other charging robots are being developed by Hyundai and Volkswagen, while the Californian company EV Safe Charge launched ‘Ziggy‘ the charging robot in the summer of 2022.
