Lotus starts delivering the Eletre in China
The Geely subsidiary Lotus has started deliveries of its first electric model Eletre in China. Later this year, the electric SUV will also be handed over to the first customers in the EU and the UK.
Lotus added that the planning for future deliveries to the US and the rest of the world is also underway, but did not specify exactly this would be.
“Eletre is a crucial part of our plan to transform Lotus into a truly global electric car brand,” said Lotus CEO Qingfeng Feng. “We are a pioneer in the decarbonization of luxury automobiles, and the delivery of Eletre has demonstrated our capability to lead the energy transition and steer the industry towards a more sustainable future.”
By 31 January 2023, Lotus had received more than 5,000 orders for the Eletre around the world. Testing began in February of this year in Germany. The electric SUV was unveiled last year and starts at £89,500 in the UK. The base model has a 450 kW drive and the 112 kWh battery allows a range of 600 kilometres. At a suitably powerful fast-charging station, the Eletre is said to be able to charge its battery from ten to 80 per cent in 20 minutes.
The Eletre S runs on the same drive as the base model, but is priced at £104,500. The range then tops out with the Eletre R, starting at prices of £120,000 and featuring a more impressive dual-motor powertrain capable of accelerating from 0-62 mph in 2.95 seconds and hitting a top speed of 165 mph.
According to the announcement, the electric car is also equipped with “fully embedded L4-ready hardware with the world’s first deployable LiDAR system”.
