Mathias Hüttenrauch has been CEO of the European business of the Chinese battery cell manufacturer CATL since March. This is a position that did not exist at the company before.

This is reported by the German publication Automobilwoche. And Hüttenrauch himself confirmed his change of position on LinkedIn. The manager has gathered more than 30 years of experience in Asia and Europe. From 2011 to 2019, he worked as CEO at the Dutch automotive supplier Nedschroef and then founded his own company specialising in investments in new-mobility and digitalisation projects.

In addition to his new post as CATL CEO Europe, Hüttenrauch is taking over as CEO of Contemporary Amperex Technology Thuringia (CATT). This was previously headed by Matthias Zentgraf, who will, however, continue to assist the company as a consultant, reports Automobilwoche. In addition, Rudolf Staudigl was appointed chairman of CATL’s supervisory board in Europe and Germany.

CATL is introducing the position of “CEO Europe” after the Chinese company started series production of battery cells in Germany at its factory in Arnstadt at the end of 2022. The initial capacity of the factory is 8 GWh per year. And with a total investment of up to 1.8 billion euros, CATL currently plans to reach a production capacity of 14 GWh “in the future” and create a total of up to 2,000 new jobs in Germany.
