Copenhagen selects 3 winning bids to install 1,000 chargers

Copenhagen has completed a tender calling for bids to install 1,000 new AC charge points. The Danish capital selected three suppliers, Clever, OK and E.ON, out of seven companies that had applied. This is to first step in a plan to build 4,100 new charging stations in Copenhagen by late 2025.

Clever will receive the largest funding, followed by OK and E.On. Copenhagen Municipality divided the tenders into 12 sub-contracts. Clever has won 4 and will be dealing with 162 charging stations. OK AmbA has won 4 partial contracts dealing with 170 charging points. E.ON Drive Infrastructure has won 4 sub-contracts for 165 charging stations.

The administration focused the tenders on the charging price for users, time to build, sustainability and the amount the CPO was willing to pay to rent the sites. Therefore, the exact locations of charge points will still need to be agreed upon between the city and the winning providers.

“In Copenhagen, we politically agree that sustainability and the environment must weigh heavily when this type of task is tendered, and we have also placed a high value on the price for the citizens, so we make it attractive to become part of the green transformation of the car park,” says Technology and environment mayor Line Barfod. “I am happy that we can now look forward to better charging options in Copenhagen Municipality so that it will be easier to drive green if you need a car.”

Copenhagen and Denmark have been en route to decarbonise transport since 2018. The capital is also among the cities that decided to entirely electric the bus fleets. In the latest update, Copenhagen aimed to electrify the five remaining bus routes not yet served with e-buses. This shall be completed by 2025.

As for the charging network – Clever and E.On are no strangers to each other. The German utility and Clever have built high-power charging infrastructure on motorways in Denmark, Norway, and Sweden through their Ultra Fast Charging Venture Scandinavia joint venture since 2019. They often rely on Compleo to deliver hardware.
