Fastned marks 250 fast-charging hubs with a new UK site

Fastned has inaugurated a charging station in East Anglia, UK, and counts it as the 250th site in Europe. It is also its 14th UK location, comprising six 300 kW charging bays. Fastned plans to open a further two sites later this summer.

The new UK location is based on the A12 motorway at Martlesham Park & Ride. The Dutch company informs that six fast chargers provide enough electricity for up to 300 miles of range in about 20 minutes.

Fastned added that the new station features a solar canopy that helps EV drivers to locate the site and stay dry while charging. In addition, the 300 kW ultra-rapid charging stations offer a range of payment methods.

Commenting on the new station, Tom Hurst, UK Country Manager for Fastned, said they were “excited to welcome drivers from Martlesham and beyond to our highly visible, easy-to-use ultra-rapid charging sites and get them back on the road”.

The Environment Secretary, the Rt Hon Therese Coffey MP, came to open the station earlier this week. She said investment in infrastructure would be key.

“Helping people move away from petrol and diesel vehicles is a key part of our plan for a cleaner, greener Suffolk and will need business and government to work closely together,” Coffey said.

The Martlesham site follows a larger charging park that Fastned opened in January this year off the A183 on Parsons Road, as reported. The launch marks Fastned’s 13th charging hub in the UK and its 7th in the North-East of the nation. In May 2022, Fastned opened its largest HPC park in Scotland, using the same 300 kW DC charging stations.

Based in Amsterdam, the company has built over 250 fast charging stations in the Netherlands, Germany, the UK, Belgium, France and Switzerland. Fastned is listed on Euronext Amsterdam (AMS: FAST).
