Fisker & ChargePoint team up in the USA
Fisker has announced that ChargePoint will take on the role as its North American partner for public charging solutions. Customers buying a Fisker Ocean will gain access to ChargePoints charging network across the USA.
The collaboration between the two companies will provide Fisker EV owners with access to more than 210,000 active charging ports under management, with over 16,700 DC fast charge ports and over 400,000 roaming ports. The ChargePoint network will be made available to Fisker Ocean owners starting with vehicle deliveries in the US and Canada.
Fisker is still ramping up production of the Ocean electric SUV, announcing plans to triple production capacities by 2024. The company’s second model, the Pear, is also open for reservations, however, deliveries of the electric SUV are not expected until 2024. As Fisker announced last November, production in Europe is also under consideration. Two more electric vehicle models are also being planned by 2025.
Should Fisker focus more intensely on Europe, an expansion of the partnership would make sense as ChargePoint is also working on expanding their charging network on the continent. Almost exactly one year ago, ChargePoint had announced plans to install 1,400 public charging stations in France. However, ChargePoint is also steadily working on corporate partnerships in the USA, such as an EV charging corridor in cooperation with Volvo Cars & Starbucks. A partnership similar to that with Fisker was also announced together with Lexus in the United States just a few weeks ago. Corporate partnerships are also on the company’s radar, such as a deal with the US American truck manufacturer Nikola Motor.
“The minute they get their new Fisker Ocean, our owners want convenient and easy-to-locate public charging stations, a quick, easy experience when using a public charger, and super-simple payment options. Together with ChargePoint, we are providing a class-leading public charging option for Fisker owners at delivery,” said Chairman and CEO Henrik Fisker.
