Elke Temme steps down for personal reasons
Elke Temme, who leads the Charging and Energy business unit at VW, is stepping down for personal reasons. She will be taking a three-month sabbatical, after which she will be available to the Volkswagen Group part-time until the end of the year. Giovanni Palazzo, President and CEO of Electrify America, will be taking over her position.
“Elke Temme has made the charging and energy services business an important pillar of the Group’s future. We regret her stepping down, but support her decision with the deepest conviction”, says Thomas Schmall, Volkswagen Group Board Member for Technology and CEO of Volkswagen Group Components.
Since 2021, Temme has managed the Charging and Energy business within the Volkswagen Group with the Elli and Electrify America brands – a “future pillar” of the Group that bundles Volkswagen’s global activities on charging infrastructure and energy services. She is taking some personal time to take care of her son, she wrote in a post on LinkedIn.
“It is therefore with a heavy heart that I have had to announce my time out today so that I can devote my full energies to this task. It is good to know that even as a top manager, my employer Volkswagen AG is allowing me to step down for these reasons and then be available to the company on a part-time basis”, she writes.
Taking over for her is Giovanni Palazzo, the current President and CEO of Electrify America. In his current position, he helped build one of the largest fast-charging networks in the US. With his taking over the Charging and Energy business unit, Palazzo is also named Chairman of the Board of Electrify America, effective 15 February. His role as Senior Vice President of Charging and Energy officially starts on 1 July.
Starting on 01 June, Rob Barrosa will take over as Electrify America’s new President and CEO.
