CitySprint to expand their UK EV fleet with help from Maxus

UK distribution company CitySprint, part of DPD Group, has announced the expansion of their EV fleet with the acquisition of 40 new electric vans from vehicle manufacturer Maxus.

The new electric vans have been strategically deployed across the UK with the aim to help reduce pollution levels in cities in which CitySprint operates, including London, Leeds, Bristol, Manchester, Southampton and Birmingham. CitySprint’s total electric vehicle fleet now comprises 43 electric vans, 24 cargo bikes, 6 electric motorbikes and 4 electric bicycles. The company added that they plan to continue to explore ways to further grow this fleet in future.

“At CitySprint, we have always acknowledged that, due to the nature of our work, we — and the logistics industry as a whole — have an important role to play in lowering emissions,” said Mark Footman, Chief Operating Officer at CitySprint, adding: “For us, doing the right thing for the environment, the communities in which we work and for the people who live, work and play in these communities is vital. That’s why we are constantly looking for ways to further strengthen our existing green fleet across the UK.” He also reiterated the goal “of having a fleet of over 200 green vehicles across the major cities we work in the next 2 years”.

DPD has generally been quite effective at decarbonizing its fleet, at least measured by their own targets, as the company managed to increase their fleet electrification targets last year. The company started the process as early as 2018, taking delivery of Fuso eCanter trucks in May of the year. Rolec was hired to install a charging network for DPD UK in 2019. Since then, the package delivery service has introduced vehicles from several manufacturers across several of their subsidiary companies, such as Nissan in the UK, as well as Mercedes and Ford. A Designwerk electric truck is on the road for the company in Switzerland.
