Zeem Solutions orders 100 Nikola Tre electric trucks
In the USA, Nikola has received an order for 100 heavy-duty electric trucks. The order for 100 Nikola Tre BEVs comes from fleet management provider Zeem Solutions, which offers logistics companies a complete package of electric vehicles, charging solutions and other services at a flat rate.
According to Nikola Motors, Zeem Solutions has already signed a binding sales contract. Zeem CEO Paul Gioupis confirms the vehicles are expected to be delivered in the coming year.
Zeem Solutions offers a “fleet-as-a-service” service. The company operates its own fleet, has charging solutions at depots and carries out transports on behalf of customers. The truck manufacturer says the order for the 100 Nikola Tre BEVs will help “meet Zeem’s current customer demand at its California depot and other future national locations”.
Zeem CEO Giopis explained: “Over the past year, we have seen a lot of demand for Class 8 tractor units from fleet operators, and the Nikola team has a well-built production vehicle that is available today and meets the range requirements of our customers.”
Zeem Solutions have been an early adopter of decarbonized commercial vehicles. In 2018, the fleet-as-a-service company contracted Lightning Systems to convert Chevy trucks with electric drives.
Nikola President, Commercial Pablo Koziner noted: “Zeem Solutions is pioneering a new way for fleets to adopt battery-electric commercial vehicles by providing the vehicles, charging, parking and maintenance with maximum availability and minimal capital investment.” Adding that “Nikola is committed to supporting Zeem to ensure their customers receive maximum value and best-in-class support.”
Nikola started series production of its Tre BEV in Coolidge in the US state of Arizona in March this year. The battery-electric Tre is designed for local use and has a range of 350 miles (563 kilometres). The Nikola Tre FCEV, which will follow later, is expected to have a range of 500 miles or 804 kilometres. Over here in Europe, Nikola has partnered with Iveco for both BEV and FCEV trucks. In both the USA and Europe, the company is forging ahead with partnerships for hydrogen refuelling infrastructure.
