World’s largest bus depot inaugurated in Qatar
The world’s largest electric bus depot was recently inaugurated in Qatar. Covering an area of more than 400,000 square metres, the Lusail electric bus depot consists of 24 buildings and offers space for 478 electric buses.
The newly inaugurated bus dept covers an area of more than 400,000 square metres and is home to 24 multi-functional buildings. Yutong says that the depot has been recognised by the Guinness World of Records as the world’s largest electric bus depot. The area can hold 478 electric buses.
The Chinese manufacturer Yutong received an order for 741 electric buses from Qatar at the end of 2020. The buses were all delivered by July 2022. In the meantime, the order has apparently been increased, and Yutong now writes of 888 electric buses in its current announcement.
The Qatari Ministry of Transport and the public transport provider Mowasalat are to authorise Yutong to conduct the management and maintenance services of the new depot. Yutong says its international operation and maintenance team will be stationed in the depot to provide the full life cycle management of electric buses.
The electric bus fleet for Qatar is to provide public transport during the World Cup coming up this month. All public transport in Qatar is to be converted to all-electric operation by 2030.
