Hegelmann logistics operations to use 50 eActros Long Haul

The internationally active German logistics company Hegelmann Group has signed a letter of intent with Mercedes-Benz Trucks for an order of 50 eActros LongHaul electric trucks. The vehicles are to be delivered successively from the start of series production in 2024.

Mercedes-Benz Trucks presented the concept prototype of the eActros LongHaul a few days ago at the IAA Transportation trade fair in Germany. The eActros LongHaul is to be tested on public roads for the first time this year. Intensive customer testing with near-series prototypes is also planned for 2023, for which Mercedes-Benz Trucks has signed letters of intent with both Amazon and Rhenus.

“To make transport sustainable and emission-free for the future, we need many strong partners at our side,” said Stina Fagerman, Head of Sales, Marketing and Services at Mercedes-Benz Trucks. “Therefore, we are very pleased about this agreement and the confidence of the Hegelmann Group in the Mercedes-Benz Trucks brand,” she added.

According to Mercedes Trucks, the eActros LongHaul can manage a range of around 500 kilometres on one battery charge. The vehicle is designed to meet the same vehicle and component durability requirements as a comparable conventional heavy-duty long-haul Actros, according to the German automaker, which amounts to 1.2 million kilometres over ten years of operation.

The eActros LongHaul is equipped with lithium iron phosphate cell technology (LFP) batteries. Three battery packs deliver a total installed capacity of over 600 kWh, and two electric motors that are part of a new e-axle generate a continuous power of 400 kW and a peak power of over 600 kW.

The heavy-duty truck will support the future truck charging standard MCS (Megawatt Charging System) so that the batteries can be charged from 20 to 80 per cent in what the truck maker says is “well under 30 minutes” with about one megawatt of power. In addition to the semitrailer tractor, Mercedes-Benz Trucks also plans to produce platform chassis variants of the eActros LongHaul right from the market launch.
