Allison Transmission to provide e-axles to Turkey
Allison Transmission will supply eGen Power axles to Turkey’s bus and truck manufacturer Anadolu Isuzu. The US American supplier has agreed to support Anadolu Isuzu in electrifying their light-duty truck and midibus platforms.
The joint cooperation agreement (JCA) will see the Turkish manufacturer integrate Allison eGen Power 100S electric axles to produce electric trucks and buses.
Allison debuted their electric axles designed for use in refuse and municipal vehicles at the Spring IFAT trade fair in Munich this year. The electric axle drive essentially replaces the original drive line since the eGen Power axle fits between the wheels without adjustments to the chassis. The eGen Power 100S integrates a high-speed electric motor and a multi-speed transmission, eliminating the need for additional drive shafts and support structures.
Allison specifies continuous power of 304 hp (227 kW) and peak output power of 437 hp (326 kW).
As for the supply deal at hand, Allison and Anadolu Isuzu have been working together for ten years. With Allison’s conventional transmissions being the preferred solution for Anadolu Isuzu’s bus platforms, integration should be even easier.
“We’re pleased to continue our longstanding relationship by delivering innovative solutions to our joint customers, including many truck and midibus fleets in Turkey, the Middle East and Europe,” said Heidi Schutte, Vice President of EMEA, APAC and South America Sales for Allison Transmission.
Anadolu Isuzu is currently developing electric vehicles for customers in countries across Europe but did not go into details regarding timelines or volumes.
In late 2021, however, the bus builder ordered batteries from Proterra, another US manufacturer, for two new Citi Volt electric bus models. Anadolu Isuzu, at the time hoped to increase its influence and market penetration in battery-electric buses.
