EV owners in the US not allowed to sound their individual warning

The US auto safety agency NHTSA has decided that carmakers and EV owners may not choose their noises to warn pedestrians of their vehicles’ approach. Instead, electrified cars will have to give a standardized warning sound at low speeds.

What this will sound like will be up to the manufacturers, however there are some guidelines: Currently, it is also required that all vehicles of the same make, model, year, body type, and trim level have the same alert sound. Although each automaker is allowed to choose what sound its vehicles make, they must be consistent and unchanging while driving at low speeds.
