Quantum Solutions starts production of the FOMM ONE EV
EV developer Quantum Solutions has announced the start of production of its FOMM ONE EV model in Thailand. The company notes this was a milestone for “Quantum’s transition to providing affordable and reliable mobility solutions”.
The FOMM ONE EV is a small battery-electric four-seater, which the company describes as “one of the world’s smallest four-seater EV models”. It features 10 kW drivetrain, which is capable of 560 Nm torque. While the prices for the new FOMM ONE have not been announced, the 2019 FOMM One EV in Thailand starts at 664,000 Thai bath before incentives.
The FOMM ONE EV was initially developed by FOMM Co, which is also the version of the vehicle mentioned above. In January of this year, Quantum Solutions acquired the rights to sell and produce the small EV “in some regions, including China” through a joint venture with FOMM.
“Thailand plays a pivotal role in auto manufacturing in Asia and the potential for its domestic EV market cannot be overlooked, which is why we are excited that Thailand is a part of our global strategy,” said Simon Zhang, Quantum’s chief executive who manages the company’s overseas platform.
Thailand has set fairly ambitious EV targets, with plans to increase the number of registered EVs to 1.2 million units around 2030, which is more than six times the number of registered EVs in 2020. For this, the government has partnered with EV manufacturers, such as Toyota or Foxconn, as well as getting involved with battery production. The Thai government also will ban internal-combustion vehicle sales from 2035.
