USA: Nissan & Wallbox power home charging this summer
Nissan and Wallbox Chargers have teamed up in the United States for a home charging package. Starting this July, Nissan will offer EV owners in the US to purchase Wallbox’s Pulsar Plus level 2 home charger and schedule installation online with a rebate.
Nissan clients may place orders through the company’s USA website, but the carmaker left undisclosed how much of a rebate it will offer.
Wallbox Chargers claims the Pulsar Plus to be their best seller and one of the smallest smart universal EV chargers in North America. Demand has “far exceeded” forecasts, said Wallbox founder and CEO Enric Asunción shortly after launching US operations in 2020. “The rapid growth we’re experiencing in the United States will require us to increase capacity shortly,” he added.
Consequently, the company, which originated in Spain, this year expanded in the US and is currently constructing a factory in Arlington, Texas. The plan is to produce over 250,000 chargers in 2022 and to increase production to over half a million units by 2025.
For Nissan, “this new program with Wallbox allows us to offer a simple solution for EV owners looking to install a home charger,” said Aditya Jairaj, Director, EV marketing and sales strategy, Nissan US.
The company’s EV offerings in North America include the updated 2023-Leaf and the new Ariya electric crossover, which will go on sale this autumn.
By 2030, Nissan targets 40% electric vehicle sales in the USA, with more to be electrified.
For Wallbox Chargers that lists as WBX in New York, the Texas plant is its fourth manufacturing facility, along with two plants in Europe and one in China. In Europe, Wallbox Chargers began production in December 2021 at a new plant in Barcelona. Wallbox expects to have a global annual production capacity of over 1.1 million chargers by the end of this year.
