Gogoro to expand to Israel
The Taiwanese electric scooter manufacturer Gogoro will soon bring its battery exchange network to Israel. For this purpose, Gogoro is cooperating with the two-wheeler dealer Metro Motor and the energy company Paz Group.
Specifically, Gogoro plans to launch its electric scooters and battery swap platform in the greater Tel Aviv area this summer and in other cities in Israel in the future. In its home market of Taiwan, Gogoro has risen to become a quasi-monopolist in battery swapping for smaller vehicles and has set the technical standard for swappable batteries.
Meanwhile, Gogoro is planning to expand: in 2021, it announced launches in China and India, and in January 2022, it was announced that Gogoro is part of a consortium that wants to build an EV ecosystem in Indonesia – a very important market for motorised two-wheelers.
“We are proud to announce our collaboration with Gogoro and excited to begin marketing their innovative Smartscooters in Israel,” said Gadi Aviram, CEO of Metro Motor. “The introduction of Gogoro into the Israeli market is excellent news for two-wheeler enthusiasts and is likely to be a significant growth engine for the company, ever-deepening its presence in the electric two-wheeler market.”
Gogoro CEO Horace Luke also states in the release that there are now 350,000 battery replacements per day worldwide using the Gogoro system. Since 2015, the total is said to be over 275 million battery replacements.
