Fisker expands to India
Budding electric car manufacturer Fisker is expanding into India. Hyderabad in the state of Telangana has been chosen as the headquarters for Fisker’s operations in India. Recruitment of local staff is already underway to pave the way for the launch of the Fisker Ocean and Fisker Pear in India.
The subsidiary is now registered in India with the name Fisker Vigyan India Pvt Ltd. The company currently has more than 450 employees worldwide, and by the end of 2022 it is expected to have more than 800 employees in the USA, Europe and now India. In India, Fisker is talking about 200 potential jobs.
The Hyderabad office will work with Fisker’s engineering and product development facilities in California and will contribute to the development of software and virtual vehicles. This includes embedded electronics, virtual vehicle development support functions, data analytics, and machine learning. According to the carmaker, the Hyderabad office will work alongside the company’s engineering and product development facilities in California, USA.
Fisker Chairman and CEO Henrik Fisker said: “In the global race for leading technical talent, we see our new operation in Hyderabad as a major strategic advantage.” He added, “We are excited to tap into the growing talent pool in India.” The company says that recruiting and hiring for local employees is already underway.
Henrik Fisker has also announced the launch of the Ocean and Pear models in India. The Pear is said to start deliveries in 2024. Whether sales activities will also be coordinated from Hyderabad has not yet been explicitly confirmed.
The start of series production of the Fisker Ocean is known to be planned for 17 November 2022. Production will take place at Magna in Graz.
