LEVC vans now available through Europcar in the UK
The London Electric Vehicle Company (LEVC) has developed a new partnership with Europcar in the UK, supplying a fleet of 100 electrified vans. The LEVC VN5 is now available in eleven cities with Europcar Vans & Trucks rental stores.
Namely, customers can rent the LEVC van at Europcar in Birmingham, Bristol, Cardiff, Gateshead, Glasgow, Heathrow Skyport, Leeds, Manchester Trafford Park, Purfleet, and Sheffield. The deal is part of Europcar’s ‘One Sustainable Fleet’ programme that focuses on Clear Air zones increasingly spreading in UK cities.
Ron Santiago, Managing Director of Europcar in the UK, said the VN5 addressed “an urgent need amongst commercial vehicle users.” He pointed to research conducted in 2021 which found that 89% of businesses expect a quarter or more of their fleet to enter a Clean Air Zone more than once a week. “Yet there is a clear gap in the availability of electric vehicles, as well as cost barriers for outright purchase,” he said.
Europcar, therefore, offers the LEVC van as a long-term rental solution. Joerg Hofmann, the LEVC CEO, thus hopes the deal would “enable many businesses to try our innovative new electric van before they buy.”
The LEVC VN5 van comes in the usual configuration and is the same as the TX taxi. The vehicle has a range extender on board, making it more of a hybrid than a purely electric vehicle. However, the zero-emission range is given at over 60 miles and a total “flexible range” of 304 miles. The cargo capacity can fit two euro pallets and offers a gross payload of up to 830kg.
Europcar and LEVC have not specified pricing. However, long term hire at Europcar usually starts from a month at a fixed rate.
The rental companies’ One Sustainable Fleet’ programme aims to reduce carbon emissions for its car and van fleet, including greening 20% of its car and van fleet by the end of 2024.
