Porsche Taycan Sport Turismo to launch for €86,495
About two months after the premiere of the Taycan GTS Sport Turismo, Porsche has also presented the estate body for the other drive versions of the Taycan. The GTS Sport Turismo is to be launched at the end of February, the other versions – from the rear-wheel-drive to the Turbo S – will follow in mid-March.
Following on from the familiar saloon and the off-road-look estate called Cross Turismo, Porsche says the derivative unveiled at the Los Angeles Auto Show is aimed at those “who want to combine the everyday practicality of the Taycan Cross Turismo with the on-road dynamics of the Taycan sports saloon”.
Unlike the Taycan Cross Turismo, which was launched in early 2021, the base Sport Turismo model has rear-wheel drive, as with the sedan. There are no changes to the drive system, so the technical specifications also remain the same for the Sport Turismo.
The base model and the smallest all-wheel-drive model called 4S are available with a small or large battery (79.2 or 93.4 kWh gross), as in the saloon. Depending on the battery, this corresponds to an output of 240 or 280 kW in the rear-wheel-drive model and 320 or 360 kW in the 4S Sport Turismo. The GTS, Turbo and Turbo S are only available with the large “Performance Battery Plus” and consequently only with one power rating: the GTS produces 380 kW, the two Turbo versions come to 460 kW. As is well known, they only differ in the overboost power available for a short time, which is stated as 500 kW for the Turbo and 560 kW for the Turbo S. However, for the top model, at least one power output is also stated. However, the top model also costs at least 187,288 euros.
According to Porsche, the Taycan Turbo S Sport Turismo accelerates from zero to 100 km/h in 2.8 seconds, with a maximum of 260 km/h possible. However, the version with the longest range is not the rear-wheel-drive model, but the Taycan 4S Sport Turismo. It is specified with a WLTP range of 498 kilometres. According to Porsche, this is possible thanks to some further developments in the drive system. In the “Normal” and “Range” driving modes, the front electric motor is almost completely disconnected and de-energised in the partial load range – and this more efficiently than before. Thermal management and charging functions have also been improved. All in all, the 4S can keep drag losses low compared to the rear-wheel-drive car, but recuperate more energy via the front axle during deceleration.
Incidentally, the Sport Turismo’s WLTP range of up to 498 kilometres even exceeds the current standard range of the sedan, which previously had a maximum range of 484 kilometres. However, Porsche has not tricked physics here: The Zuffenhausen-based company itself states that after the range improvements for the 2022 model year, the saloon was not homologated separately. In other words, the sedan’s WLTP values are still from 2019, even though Porsche can now achieve higher ranges. This is also evident in the GTS version of the saloon: this also has the 2022 improvements and has now been re-homologated – to 504 kilometres according to WLTP.
There are no serious changes to the familiar charging system: the 800-volt system can charge with up to 270 kW (small battery: 225 kW). This means that both batteries can be charged from five to 80 per cent in 22 minutes and 30 seconds. An 11 kW AC charger is fitted ex works, 22 kW is available as an option.
Compared to the Cross Turismo, the changes to the body are also minor. The off-road design elements are omitted, and the optional off-road package with 30 millimetres more ground clearance is not available here. In the interior, however, the data is similar: The headroom on the front seats increases by nine millimetres, in the rear even by 45 millimetres. The size of the luggage compartment depends on the equipment: standard it is 446 litres instead of the 407 litres of the saloon. However, if the customer chooses the Bose sound system, the usable volume drops to 405 litres. With the rear seatbacks folded down, the Sport Turismo can load between 1,171 and 1,202 litres. The frunk holds 84 litres in all versions.
There are two more innovations: a panoramic glass roof with “Sunshine Control” is available in the Sport Turismo. The large glass surface is divided into a total of nine areas that can be controlled individually. In this way, either partial areas or the entire roof can be made transparent or opaque. Since glare is prevented with the “Sunshine Control” function, the roof could be significantly brighter than the basic roof. According to Porsche, twice as much light enters the interior.
In addition, the Taycan Sport Turismo is the first electric model from Zuffenhausen to be equipped with the optional Remote Park Assist. This allows the car to be parked and exited remotely via smartphone without the driver having to sit in the car.
