DBT forms R3 to operate fast-charging hubs

French EV charging station specialist DBT Group has announced the launch of R3 (Réseau Recharge Rapide), a subsidiary dedicated to operating its network of ultra-fast charging stations.

The first R3 recharging station opened for business on 6 December at the Norauto site in Fâches-Thumesnil, just outside Lille. DBT says that subsequent stations should be set up at a fast pace in high-traffic areas that have recreational facilities nearby, aiming to ensure a comprehensive service for users.

Group DBT says that R3’s offer will include the creation of a national network of ultra-fast charging stations. These will be installed in urban and suburban areas at “fiercely competitive prices”. The Group says that most of the stations will include three 150kW ultra-fast charging points that are compatible with all vehicles on the market that are capable at this level. This network is supposed to be open to all electric car and small electric commercial vehicle drivers and without subscriptions. The new company R3 aims to be able to offer 4 direct payment methods and says it will be prioritizing maintenance and 24/7 support so that the stations are always reliable.

For those customers with shopping centres, restaurant chains,  and the like, R3 is aiming to combine free installation with “an additional source of income” based on the charging stations’ sales performance.

DBT expects 50 R3 hubs to be up and running by summer 2022, initially in the Hauts de France and Grand Est regions.
