UK: Onto tops up EV fleet with over 1,000 Renault electric cars
British electric car subscription service Onto has ordered a further 1,050 Renault Zoe, following the 1,100 Zoe already ordered last year. Counting the new batch, the French model will account for more than a quarter of Onto’s electric car fleet.
Onto’s new order consists of Zoe E-Tech Iconic and Zoe E-Tech GT Line, Renault UK reports. All vehicles also come with the optional DC charger. Renault expects to deliver most of the cars to Onto before the end of Q4 2021, with the remainder to follow in early 2022.
Renault and Onto have been working together since Onto’s launch in 2017, then running under Evezy. Originally the subscription provider had ordered 180 Zoe and has continued to top up the fleet ever since.
Rob Jolly, CEO and Co-founder at Onto, called the Zoe “one of the most popular choices” for Onto subscribers. He added, “The Zoe E-Tech will continue to play an important role in our product offering as we grow the business, and we hope to continue our partnership with Renault in 2022 and beyond.”
Recent months reportedly also saw Onto procuring various e-models from other manufacturers, including the Fisker Ocean EV, Audi’s e-tron. On our count and also seeing Renault claim a quarter of Onto cars, the Onto fleet must now comprise nearly 8,000 electric cars for subscribers to rent from £389 a month.
No wonder investors were eager to get on board, most recently in July when Onto raised $175 million, including prominent investor TotalEnergies. The Series B raise brought Onto’s total funding to $245 million (about €208Mn).
Onto’s subscription model includes free car delivery, 1,000 miles per month, insurance, service and repair, and free access to more than 12,000 public EV charge points via its network of charging partners. The latter include Shell Recharge, BP Pulse, InstaVolt and Tesla Supercharger.
While the company did not disclose the number of subscribers, it says over 300 businesses had signed up for its B2B service Onto for Business launched earlier this year. Employees have access to the same range of EVs with insurance, maintenance and charging included.
So far, the EV subscription service is exclusive to the UK.
