The department for getting off diesel runs on… ..diesel
Not leading by example: The UK government department overseeing the phasing out of diesel cars still relies on them for its own fleet.
Figures obtained by the BBC show the Department for Transport operates a total of 1,234 cars. The majority of these run on… ..diesel – 672 of them, to be exact. These aren’t the only fosil-fuel guzzlers, there are also 63 that run on petrol while the rest or only partially fossil-fuelled with a small percentage being actually emission-free. The figures show 29% of the electrified vehicles were plug-in electric hybrids, a further 9% were so-called mild hybrids, and only 3% were purely electric.
