Japan shows chargers do not correlate to BEVs
The number of charging stations in Japan declined last year for the first time since 2010, but there are apparently still too many for the roughly one per cent of electric cars on Japan’s roads. Now the government is reacting.
Currently, Japan is sporting hundreds of ageing charging stations that are not being used. Some are even being taken out of service, as the technology has become somewhat outdated. The reason for the oversaturation is that the subsidies for charging stations caused these to spring up more quickly than the EV market was developing.
