Ford Pro acquires Electriphi for charging commercial fleets

Ford announced the acquisition of Electriphi, a provider of charging management and fleet monitoring software for electric vehicles in California. Electriphi’s team and services will be integrated into Ford Pro, a new business unit for commercial customers.

Ford Pro plans to leverage its commercial vehicle offerings with Electriphi’s technology to help customers transition to EV fleets.

“As commercial customers add electric vehicles to their fleets, they want depot charging options,” said Ford Pro CEO Ted Cannis. He added Ford’s ambition to become a “single-source solution for fleet-depot charging” – with the help of Electriphi technology.

Based in Silicon Valley, Electriphi’s team of more than 30 employees has developed and deployed a purpose-built electric vehicle fleet and charging management platform. It tracks key operational metrics like the real-time status of vehicles, chargers and maintenance services and is said to save cost.

For Ford, Electriphi’s charging platform will complete the purpose-built charging ecosystem services for commercial customers, says the carmaker. So far, the suite includes employee home charging, public charging and e-telematics solutions. According to the company, customers in North America can sign up for Electriphi charge management services now at electriphi.ai. Ford Pro also says it plans on making these services available in Europe at a later date.

The Electriphi acquisition comes as Ford prepares to launch all-electric versions of the Transit van and F-150 pickup. The F-150 Lightning debuted in May and Ford says it received 70,000 reservations only a week after the presentation. Ford will start shipping E-Transit to customers later this year and US clients are invited to register their interest; F-150 Lightning Pro will be available in spring 2022.

Also, in May, the company announced a 30-billion-dollar investment in e-mobility by 2025, including two platforms. One modular platform for volume models such as cars, SUVs, pickup trucks and delivery vehicles and another special platform for large pickup trucks.
