When less is not more
The number of charging stations for electric cars in Japan actually declined last year for the first time since 2010. The number of public and semi-public charging stations in Japan fell by 1,087 from the previous fiscal year.
This comes at a time when the Japanese government now plans to ban the sale of cars powered exclusively by internal combustion engines from 2035, which was already rumoured in December. At the moment, only about 1 per cent of new cars sold in Japan are electric, so chargers have likely not found enough use, while others are outdated.
