While Volkswagen’s new electric SUV flagship was launched on mainland Europe at the beginning of the month, the model update to drive on the left-hand side of the road followed quickly.
The MEB-based e-SUV runs on a synchronous rear motor producing 150 kW, featuring a maximum torque of 310 Nm and draws power from a battery with 77 kWh net capacity. An addition to the lineup is planned to follow this upcoming spring 2021, with an additional all-wheel-drive ID.4 GTX version with an additional asynchronous motor on the front axle will be added, bringing an additional 75 kW and 151 Nm torque. The US EPA confirmed the official range at 250 miles (402 km), however, a test drive by electrive found a real-world value averaging closer to 345 km.
The US launch of the ID.4 is still scheduled for March, following an initial delay from December 2020 due to the pandemic and pending fines from the EU should the German company not sell enough emissions-free vehicles.
Furthermore, Volkswagen UK plans its launch into 2021 by extending the range of economic offers across its entire range. In terms of financing, this means every model in the VW UK range is available with a rate of 4.9% APR on the Solutions Personal Contract Plan, with the vast majority also benefitting from deposit contributions to add to the overall value proposition. Among these is a £1,750 deposit contribution for the ID.3 range. The plug-in hybrid Golf GTE also benefits from a representative APR rate of 4.9%. The offers will last until the end of March 2021.
“Last year, the entire team worked hard – at all times mindful of being Covid-safe – to ensure that our customers could continue to enjoy the unbeatable value and high quality that Volkswagen is so well known for,” said Patrick McGillycuddy, Head of Sales Operations at Volkswagen UK. “We’re keeping that momentum as we start 2021, with a suite of offers to make the already enticing Volkswagen range even more appealing.”
Update 08 April 2021: Volkswagen is opening the order books for series-production versions of the ID.4 electric SUV in the UK, one month after introducing the special First Edition model as above last month.
The Pro Performance line up includes the Life, Family and Max specifications and all use the same Pro Performance powertrain as the First Edition. All feature a 77kWh net capacity battery and deliver up to 323 miles of electric range. Like the First Edition, all three models support 125kW rapid charging. Volkswagen says this allows for 199 miles of range to be added in 30 minutes.
Prices start at £41,570. Deliveries are scheduled to begin in early May.
