The reason behind the recall is that issues arose necessitating that the vehicles have their suspension struts replaced if they are too weak. A total of 175 of the affected vehicles are on the roads in their home market in Germany and a total of 302 vehicles worldwide.
Update 20 January 2020: Mercedes-Benz is also recalling 1,910 units of the eSprinter and eVito electric commercial vehicles worldwide, 1,353 of these are in Germany. According to the KBA, insufficient sealing of the high-voltage battery housing can lead to moisture ingress in the event of corrosion, which would make it impossible to restart the vehicle as well as an increased risk of fire.
