Škoda announces hybrid addition to ‘blue-light’ lineup
Škoda is adding lower-emission options for emergency services with a plug-in hybrid Octavia vRS iV, next to the Octavia iV and Superb iV. The three hybrid vehicles are designed to suit the needs of ambulance, fire and rescue, as well as police services.
The manufacturer claims that the Octavia vRS iV is “ideal for any rapid response police unit”. With a 1.4-litre TSI engine and 85kW electric motor delivering 245PS, it is capable of sprinting from 0-62 mph in just over seven seconds and features an electric range of up to 39 miles. The Octavia iV boasts comparatively low fuel consumption and a total power output of 204PS with a torque of 350Nm and up to 43 miles of electric range.
The Superb iV features 218PS and an electric range of 37 miles. This vehicle also boasts additional storage space and can be extended to up to 1,800-litres when folding down the rear seats. Škoda calculates that this extra space “provides sufficient room for blue-light customers to store and transport vital life-saving emergency equipment such as oxygen tanks, ventilators and other essential breathing apparatus.”
