Quantron working on fuel cell transporter

The commercial vehicle conversion company Quantron has announced a hydrogen transporter based on the Iveco Daily. The hydrogen drives from AE Driven Solutions (AEDS) are to be offered initially as a panel van and flatbed.

But it will not remain with the initial two versions. As Quantron writes in the announcement, they are working hard on expanding the product range for transporters with fuel cells, so there will be more bodies and also models of other manufacturers.

As preliminary data for the fuel cell vehicles based on the Iveco Daily, Quantron mentions an output of 100 kW for the 4.2-tonner and 147 kW for 7.2 tons. The range is to depend on the customer’s chosen tank size and is to be between 300 and 500 kilometres. The company, which was founded in 2019, has not yet announced prices for the model named Q-LIH2 and the market launch.

Quantron already offers the Iveco Daily from 3.49 tonnes upwards with hybrid drive and in a battery-electric version. The hybrid is available from 36,500 euros net. The purely electric version costs at least 68,500 euros net.

Quantron hopes that the focus on retrofitting existing models will lead to further CO2 savings, as existing resources can be used. Quantron is converting commercial vehicles to both battery-electric and fuel cell drive systems, as the company believes that the two technologies complement each other “to provide a wide range of solutions for short and long distances in line with the vehicles’ application profile”.

AEDS is a spin-off of the RWTH Aachen University. In addition to StreetScooter founder Achim Kampker, the Neumann & Esser Group, a mechanical and plant engineering company founded in Aachen in 1830, holds a stake in the company.

It was only in June that Quantron announced a 44-tonne fuel cell truck with a range of around 700 kilometres. The vehicle can already be ordered but is not scheduled for delivery until the end of next year.
