Porsche Taycan 4S now available in the USA
Porsche has added an entry-level Taycan 4S to join the Taycan Turbo and Turbo S at U.S. dealerships. The official EPA estimated range for the Taycan 4S is 203 miles, and prices start at $103,800.
Compared to the more expensive versions, the 4S is not that much less powerful. It reaches 60 mph in 3.8 seconds, compared to the Taycan Turbo’s 3 seconds and the Turbo S’s 2.6 seconds. The main difference here is that the 4S has a weaker rear electric motor. is the 4S’ less powerful rear electric motor.
The front motor is the same for all Taycans, while the Turbo S gets a more powerful inverter. Porsche describes the setup as follows: “With two permanently excited synchronous motors on the front and rear axles—in other words, all-wheel drive—as well as a two-speed transmission on the rear axle, the drive architecture comprises the same main technical highlights as the rest of the Taycan family.”
As the price for the Taycan Turbo S starts at $187,000, it is quite clear where the savings were made. Charging performance is at 225kW for the Performance Battery or 270kW for the Performance Battery Plus version, which features an improved range and performance, compared to the basic 4S. Another notable difference with the Performance battery package, which boosts capacity from 79.2kWh to 93.4kWh, is that the Performance Battery Plus enables the dual motors to generate up to 562hp (420kW) with an overboost function.
