Six months free charging for UK Peugeot customers
Peugeot has announced that a free six-month subscription to the Polar Plus charging network will be included with each new electric or plug-in hybrid car sold. This coincides with the launch of their new hybrid vehicle range and their first fully electric vehicle on the UK market.
The new hybrid range includes everything from the 3008 SUV to the 508 and 508 SW sedans. Their first electric vehicle is, of course, the much-heralded e-208, which is also a small city car. It will be followed by the e-2008 for those who want to go electric but still feel the need to drive an SUV. The electric SUV can already be pre-ordered, but the six-month trial subscription won’t launch until delivery of the vehicle, naturally.
It bears mentioning that the Polar Plus free subscription does not include all of their charging stations, but “a majority of public charging points on the Polar network are free to use.” Whether this means that only the public 7kW AC charging points already present on British streets and parking lots are included and the 150 kW DC rapid chargers being rolled out are exempt was not specified. Following the trial subscription, customers are then free to either pay a monthly £7.85 for continued use of the service or the pay-as-you-go variant through ‘Polar Instant’.
David Peel, Managing Director of Peugeot UK, described the collaboration as follows: “With more than 7,000 public charging points across the UK, PEUGEOT’s collaboration with Polar Plus is a great way to encourage drivers to make the switch to electric vehicles. One of the main hesitations around EVs is access to charging points, and drivers who subscribe to Polar Plus when buying a new fully-electric or plug-in hybrid Peugeot model will find it far easier to access the energy they need when travelling throughout the UK.”
This year, the French company will also include utility vehicles in its electric lineup, as the Expert is set to hit the market as a fully electric transporter in the second half 0f the year.
