e-troFit EV conversions to have Voltabox battery systems
Voltabox has strengthened its long-term cooperation with e-troFit with the signing of a framework agreement. The battery system manufacturer is now the preferred supplier for the e-troFit conversion solution for buses and trucks.
Last year e-troFit ordered the first battery units from Voltabox for conversion kits. “The delivery of the first systems took place according to plan in the fourth quarter of 2019”, said Voltabox in the accompanying press release.
In the meantime, Voltabox has adapted its system exactly to the needs of the conversion solution – including the interaction with drive components and vehicle control electronics. The cooperation began last year. In the framework agreement now concluded, both companies have regulated the continuous supply of battery systems. The company did not release details about delivery volume or value.
While Voltabox already has a great deal of experience in the bus segment, the cooperation with e-troFit means an advance into a “promising new sub-sector in this market” for the German company based in Delbrück. According to Voltabox, the retrofit solution is to be extended to other widely used bus and truck models and quickly marketed in markets beyond Germany.
Specifically, the new conversion kit from e-troFit comprises a modular Voltabox battery system for a range of up to 260 km – consisting of modules with prismatic NMC cells. The system can be scaled step by step for longer ranges and is designed to be mounted in the rear as well as on the roof.
“Compared to buying a new system, the conversion is an economically extremely sensible alternative thanks to lower purchase costs and faster delivery times”, says Andreas Hager, head of e-troFit GmbH. The economic advantages over diesel buses result from lower running costs. And the company manager is not alone in this assessment: at the end of 2018, the subsidiary of in-tech GmbH received the German Mobility Award for its conversion solution, which is awarded by the initiative “Germany – Land of Ideas” and the Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure. In addition to retrofitting vehicles, e-troFit is also planning solutions for equipping new buses, trucks and other commercial and special vehicles. In addition to Voltabox the company also counts ZF and Valeo among its partners.
