The Polish supplier Ekoenergetyka-Polska announces a new major order from Munich. The Munich public transport operator Münchner Verkehrsgesellschaft has ordered 56 charging stations for a brand new bus depot.

The charging points for electric buses, each with control output of 75 kW (maximum 150 kW), will be installed at a new depot Münchner Verkehrsgesellschaft (MVG) is currently building in the Moosach district of Munich. A special feature: The charging stations exhibit liquid cooling. The resulting waste heat is to be used for heating on the company premises and surrounding buildings.

The building complex called Hybrid-M includes a bus depot for 200 vehicles, an office complex and a multi-story car park. In the depot, Ekoenergetyka-Polska wants to make charging as easy as possible for drivers: The connecting cables (CCS plugs with a maximum of 200 amps) are to be automatically lowered from the roof of the hall directly at the parking space of the electric buses. The Polish company is cooperating with WISAG Elektrotechnik Bayern for the installation.

Hybrid-M has been under construction since 2018, work on the charging infrastructure will begin in April 2020, and the entire infrastructure is scheduled to be commissioned in spring 2021. “We are glad that more and more operators approach the electrification of vehicle fleets comprehensively, creating from scratch infrastructures adapted to operating electric buses,” says Maciej Wojeński, Deputy Chairman of the Management Board of Ekoenergetyka-Polska. The alternative heat source is “an innovative solution, even on a global scale”.

Stadtwerke München (SWM) and its subsidiary MVG exclusively use green electricity for their metros and trams, and by 2030 the bus fleet is to be converted to electric drives (the first line is already electrified) – with the new depot in Moosach playing an important role. However, it is not yet so far that Munich will only purchase electric buses will. SWM announced that MVG has bought 45 new Mercedes articulated buses of the “Citaro hybrid” type. The total order value of the new mild hybrid vehicles is more than 15 million euros.
