Valeo to show new climate solutions for e-buses
The French automotive supplier Valeo will be presenting a series of innovations for electrified buses at Busworld in Brussels in October. Efficient heating and air-conditioning systems for the interior are designed to reduce the energy consumption of the vehicles.
Valeo will be showcasing the REVO-E HP R744, a fully-electric roof-mounted air conditioner with heat pump function for hybrid and electric buses for the first time. The system works with CO2, which is called R744 when used as a refrigerant. According to the manufacturer, the unit automatically selects the appropriate operating mode and switches from the air-conditioning system to the heat pump or the de-icing function. The defrosting function is automatically activated when outside temperatures fall below 5 degrees Celsius, preventing the ice that can occur with conventional heat pumps mounted on the vehicle roof.
Alternatively, the Valeo Thermo HV is the first specially developed high-voltage heating system for electric buses. The heater delivers a constant output of up to 12 kW, but can also be fully variably controlled.
Heating and cooling the batteries are also important for hybrid and electric buses – a loss of range due to too cold or hot batteries present bus operators with major planning challenges in everyday operations. To improve battery performance and longevity, Valeo is introducing a stronger version of the E-Cooler BTM. The well-known 5 kW version is complemented by versions with 7 to 10 kW. At temperatures below 15 degrees, the unit uses the ambient air for passive cooling, at higher temperatures the active cooling is switched on.
Valeo is also introducing a further variant of the SPump electric circulation pump in the form of the 120 W version. The new pump is the lightest member of the series and is particularly suitable for smaller cooling circuits. It also has an intelligent diagnostic function and can communicate with other parts of the energy management system within the bus.
But Valeo will not be alone at Busworld with its heating and air-conditioning solutions: Konvekta has also announced some new products for the fair.
