ChargePoint & NewMotion sign roaming partnership
EV charging network operators NewMotion and ChargePoint have signed a roaming partnership for the UK and Europe. The agreement will allow customers to access both networks without needing to create a new account.
The roaming partnership is to take effect by the end of the year and for NewMotion will also include the InstaVolt network of rapid DC charging stations which ChargePoint has had exclusive access to since 2017. Users of ChargePoint, on the other hand, will gain access to NewMotion’s public charging network both in the UK and across Europe.
Sytse Zuidema, chief executive at Shell-owned NewMotion, welcomed the agreement, saying this will “expand our European charging network that already includes over 118,000 charge points”. For NewMotion, this is the second deal in quick succession as the company also signed a contract with Vattenfall to join networks in the UK. The US-based ChargePoint Inc. operates with an outspoken view to interoperability on both continents.
Roaming will take effect before the year’s end.
