Battery beef continues to escalate
The legal battle between the South Korean battery manufacturers LG Chem and SK Innovation is heating up in the USA. After LG Chem had sued their competitor from Korea, SK Innovation has now turned the tables and launched a counter-suit for patent infringement.
The initial lawsuit was regarding the stealing of intellectual property by former employees who switched companies. LG Chem did not tarry long in responding to the new case, calling the lawsuit groundless, and adding the promise to seek compensation for their troubles.
SK Innovation denied the new lawsuit having anything to do with the first, however: “These lawsuits are not relevant to LG Chem’s lawsuit against us accusing misappropriation of trade secrets, but they are rightful lawsuits to protect our intellectual property,” said YS Yoon, president of SK Innovation’s battery business.
