Forsee Power delivers batteries to London
The French company Forsee Power will equip 34 electric buses from Portuguese manufacturer CaetanoBus with its battery systems. The buses are to be delivered to London from the first quarter of 2020, where they will serve two electric bus routes.
The Zen 35 battery system from Forsee Power with NMC cells will be used, which will be mounted on the roof of the buses and will give them a range of 230 km. The capacity of the batteries used for the London electric buses is 350 kWh, but the Zen 35 system enables up to 500 kWh. The French company has been working with CaetanoBus since 2017.
London recently commissioned the first electric double-decker buses from BYD ADL, a British-Chinese joint venture. “While the British market attaches great importance to Chinese manufacturers, this alliance shows that European players can survive in the most competitive markets in a context of sustainable energy transition,” said Sebastien Rembauville-Nicolle, Director of the Smart Transport Division at Forsee Power.
However, there is one limitation: London has also ordered several fuel cell buses from the Irish company Wrightbus. Forsee Power is also supplying the batteries for these buses, albeit from the much smaller “Pulse” system.
Forsee Power batteries will also be used in the vehicles of the French manufacturers Heuliez and Alstom, which the Paris public transport operator RATP intends to use as part of its electric bus procurement offensive announced in April.
