Electric car-sharing Spark launches in Romania
The Lithuanian electric car-sharing service Spark has officially launched in Romania with a deployment of 50 cars in Bucharest. The fleet consists of Nissan Leafs and Renault Zoes.
Spark, a Lithuanian startup that is also present in Bulgaria, has expanded to Romania. The company offers electric car rentals with payment by the minute. So far, a fleet of 50 electric cars, namely the Nissan Leaf and Renault Zoe has been deployed in Bucharest.
“Our goal is to reach 100 vehicles in the next few months, which can provide over 200 km of autonomy in a single charge,” said Iordan Tonchev, general manager of Spark Car Sharing SRL, who oversees the company’s activities in Romania.
The prices are competitive and start at RON 1.20 (€0.25) per minute for the Zoe and RON 1.40 (approx. 30 cents) per minute for the Nissan Leaf. There is a 24-hour cap that includes 150 km per day with a maximum price limit of RON 215 (45 euros) and a maximum of RON 260 (54 euros). The minimum rental time is 12 minutes. The service area, however, is Bucharest, so anybody leaving the city’s limits must bring the car back or else pay extra.
The cars can be found in Spark’s service areas which currently cover most of the city centre, including Union Square, Roman Square, North Railway Station, Cotroceni, Izvor Park, Parliament Palace, Obor Square, Iancului Square, Dristor and other central areas.
Spark operates a kind of free floating principle with designated parking areas indicated on the app. In Vilnius, Lithuania, many of these parking spaces come with a charging opportunity whereas we could not see yet, how this will work in Bucharest.
