Tesla’s 35 k Model 3 racing off production lines
Approximately one week after the US sales launch of the 35k Model 3, Tesla has produced around 550 units. In Europe, the availability of the new basic version will take another six months.
News of the 550 units produced was released in by Electrek. According to the report, a first batch of the Model 3 Standard Range at the new base price has already rolled off the production line in Nevada within two days. The information is based on a “source familiar with Tesla production”.
Meanwhile, news from China is that the building for Tesla’s Shanghai plant is expected to be completed in May, reports Reuters citing a Chinese government official who says that the first production lines are due to come online by the end of the year. This matches our recent reports on Tesla’s China plans with CEO Elon Musk reckoning that the lines will start rolling before the year’s end. However, serial production in numbers will only take up speed in 2020.
Tesla’s Gigafactory 3 will not only produce batteries but also complete electric cars. Tesla officially laid the foundation stone for the factory at the beginning of January.
