The cooperation has been ongoing for some time, and BMW has provided batteries for the DEEP BLUE system by Torqeedo, which also found a use for the batteries in low voltage systems. The ClubSwan 36 now boasts 50% longer cycle life and energy density 70% higher than that of a “typical marine lithium battery”.
“Technology transfer between industries and applications makes both stronger. Torqeedo’s partnership with BMW started with the recognition that their lithium batteries delivered an unbeatable combination of energy density, long-life and safety,” said Dr Christoph Ballin, CEO of Torqeedo.
Update 27.05.2019: The electric yacht ClubSwan 36, fitted with a Torqeedo drive and BMW-i batteries announced in January was recently presented for the first time at an event in the Marina di Scarlino. It will now be subjected to further (sea) tests and will then be launched on the market. Nautor’s Swan hopes to already have five of the yachts in the water by the peak of the 2019 One Design season, the Nations Trophy.
