Belgian buyers club for electric cars in Flanders
The Flemish government is now organising a group purchase with extensive discounts to promote the use of electric cars in said region of Belgium. Interested parties have a choice of Nissan Leaf, Renault Zoe, Hyundai Kona Electric and Peugeot iOn, all offered online.
The initiators have negotiated group discounts of up to 14,000 euros for these four electric car models. Those wanting to benefit can still register for the group purchase until 15 May 2019. Suitable charging infrastructure is also part of the offer.
The campaign is coordinated by the online sales platform Bobex and is commissioned by the Flemish government. Environment Minister Lydia Peeters of Flanders, the Dutch-speaking region in the north of Belgium, explained that “the whole purpose of the group purchase is to make it easier for people to take the step.”
In December 2018, the market share of purely electric vehicles in Flanders was 1.94 per cent. A premium of up to 4,000 euros for the purchase of an electric car and tax breaks have not yet taken off. The group offer aims to contribute to the government’s goal of getting 60,000 electric cars on the road by 2020.
