The Boring Company to reveal an autonomous e-shuttle
Elon Musk’s tunnel digging venture, The Boring Company says they will open their first tunnel underneath L.A. on December, 18. Moreover they will combine it with the debut of an autonomous shuttle Musk says is “road-legal”.
But Musk wouldn’t be Musk if it weren’t for a certain speculative framework. The 2-mile test tunnel was supposed to be opened on December 10, but now the big date has been pushed back a week. Musk tweeted that The Boring Company was also launching a new product as well on December, 18.
Boring Company product launch on Dec 18. More than a tunnel opening. Will include modded but fully road legal autonomous transport cars & ground to tunnel car elevators.

Musk had already said in the summer that The Boring Company was working on developing modified electric vehicles based on the Tesla Model X for eight to 16 passengers, who could travel autonomously at up to 240 kph in the tunnels on rails.
What remains unclear however is whether the announced presentation is really about these electric pods with Model X genes. Or the tunnels they are purportedly supposed to be making use of. Or indeed ground to tunnel elevators hinted at in the tweet. Or all three of the above. Let us hope all will be revealed on December 18, 2018.
