MotionWerk transferred the rights to their block-chain software Share&Charge to the newly founded Share&Charge Foundation. The organization has now begun work.

The goal of the initiative is to spread the Share&Charge technology independently of the company. The service, which was initially launched in 2017, was cancelled early this year. At the time, MotionWerk had already announced the plan to re-structure the app, and transfer the rights to a foundation, before decentralising the service and making it available as an open-source solution.

This has now taken place. “The feedback from mobility and energy companies is fantastic and there is a lot of interest in going on this journey together”, explains Dietrich Sümmermann, chairman of the foundation board. Motionwerk added, that the first partners are already involved in the developments of new standards and the action of spreading the network across the continent as an open source software solution.

Interested companies and organisations have the option to test the Share&Charge protocol, or to actively get involved in the new standards, developing in cooperation with work teams. Currently, next to the basic payment via blockchain, green power certificates will be added, while calibration law and Plug&Charge are topics of interest. The company continued, stating that these topics were being researched and put into pilot projects to further elaborate the concepts.
