Subaru launches first PHEV in the US (gallery)
Subaru is advancing into electrification and has chosen the U.S. to launch their first ever plug-in hybrid vehicle. The Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid has a humble range of 27 km (17 miles) and the carmaker praises the smooth system.
It is the first time Subaru offers a plug-in hybrid. This Crosstrek builds on their standard Crosstrek model and the five-seater SUV offers all-wheel drive.
The system delivers 102 kW (137 hp) with the battery holding 8.8 kWh. Drivers may charge at home and Subaru mentions a “specific charger” without specifying it further. The “Remote Battery Charging Timer” allows to control charging via smartphone app however.
The on-sale is set before the year’s end in the States. It is unclear whether or when Subaru will target other markets to date.
