Solar yacht to sail the high seas
The SolarImpact is a luxurious electric yacht, fitted with solar panels which supply two 500 kW electric motors with power. The 800 kWh battery is said to be sufficient for ten hours of operation, but if that should not be enough, the yacht is also fitted with two diesel motors acting as range extenders.
Solar panels are embedded in the “skin” of the yacht, and can collect up to 320 kWh on a sunny day, considerably lightening the load on the range extenders. The price of the bond-villainesque yacht has not been released, but considering it’s size, it will likely not be something to cater towards hobby-fishermen.
