Electric tender for yachts by Avon, Torqeedo & BMW
Boat owners may rejoice as Avon has developed the eJET 450, a 100% electric tender. It uses Torqeedo’s electric drive technology with power provided by a BMW i3 battery. It is the partners’ latest cooperation in the marine segment.
For the project at hand, Avon utilised tried and tested the technology by both BMW and electric boat specialist Torqeedo. The new tenders, small boats accompanying yachts, are equipped with the 55 kW Deep Blue electric motor from Torqeedo and the 30.5 kWh battery used in the BMW i3.
The eJET gets 90 minutes of range at 23 knots, a whooping 42 kph, and achieves a max speed of 31 knots thanks to its Hydrojet technology. The eJET products can also be maintained and upgraded directly through the Internet, much like a Tesla.
Dr Christoph Ballin, CEO of Torqeedo, finds: “Avon’s eJET tender marks the arrival of clean and quiet electric mobility in the luxury tender segment. It’s a gorgeous product, and we are proud to support it.”
The yacht business is not new to either BMW or Torqeedo. In fact, they are working on an entirely electric yacht to compete in the Vendée Globe solo, around-the-world race in 2020 (we reported).
Avon will present the electric tender at both the Cannes Yachting Festival & the Monaco Yacht Show.
