Brussels places major hybrid bus order with IVECO
IVECO Bus has received an order from Belgium over 141 hybrid buses. STIB-MIVB, Brussels’ transport company, selected the 18-metre and articulated model Urbanway. Deliveries are set to start in May 2019.
The large order will enable the transport operator to increase its bus network by a third by the end of 2019. Iveco’s hybrid Urbanway buses offer space for 103 passengers. All-electric operation is limited to stop and go, for example when arriving or leaving at bus stops.
The hybrid combines an electric traction system with a Euro VI engine. The powertrain management system is said to reduce fuel consumption and CO2 emissions by 30% compared to conventional diesel models.
The five-year agreement between Iveco and Brussels includes planning, construction, supply, implementation, delivery of spare parts and battery pack maintenance for the hybrid buses.
