Germany and Poland set up battery cell alliance

The previously rumoured plan by Germany and Poland to cooperate in the area of battery cells is becoming more specific: The cooperation is now said to be aiming to set up battery cell manufacturing across the nations’ border regions.

This was made clear by German economic minister Peter Altmaier, who had been visiting Polish counterpart Jadwiga Emilewicz in Warsaw. The two had apparently intensively discussed the future of the initiative.

The location being considered is in the Lausitz region, and across the nearby Polish border, following a model set by Airbus who also set up a European cooperative enterprise. Another thought behind the initiative may be to provide the region, which has been heavily invested in the coal industry with some future perspective. The battery cell project will be further developed in early 2019 at a bilateral conference between the two member nations.
