Norway controlling border with Russia on e-bikes
Norway is taking a new approach to controlling its close to 200-km border with Russia. Border patrols are testing off-road electric bikes that allow for a much stealthier approach, while being kinder to the taiga’s flora and fauna.
The electric bikes used by the Norwegian armed forces have extra fat tires for a good grip on arctic terrain. They replace six-wheeled vehicles as well as snowmobiles. At least in summer.
The troops hope to approach silently to prevent illegal border crossings and also to not surprise the region’s animals.
